Startup CLEVI has emerged as a game changer in Korea’s AI industry, proving that Korea can also develop AI using its own technological capabilities.

It has begun open beta services for ‘Ivy’, an ultra-large-scale generative AI developed in-house using LLM (large language model) technology. Until now, Korea had failed to achieve notable results in the AI market amid the dominance of Open AI in the United States and DeepSeek in China.

However, CLEVI’s official launch of its own ultra-large-scale generative AI model, ‘Ivy’, using LLM (large language model) technology has led to recognition that Korea, too, has the capability to develop AI using its own technological capabilities.

Ivy, a high-performance, low-cost model, delivers outstanding effectiveness and performance, with reasoning, specialised agent capabilities and a high instruction-following rate. As it provides powerful features including △real-time learning and adaptation △multi-data processing △code interpreter △expert model generation △agent support system, it can be used across a wide range of fields, from individual users to businesses.

CLEVI CEO Lee Hwan-ho said, “The development cost of this model was approximately KRW 1.5 billion, while operating costs average around KRW 10 million per month.” He added, “This is expected to provide a breakthrough in resolving the AI cost issues that businesses are concerned about.” He emphasised that “because the ‘Ivy’ model offers high efficiency and high performance, it can solve the problem identified as a disadvantage of generative AI: ‘PoC is easy, but Complete is not.’”

To minimise AI development costs, CLEVI introduced innovative technology that applies automated, container-based training node deployment technology to manage the development process efficiently.

Of particular note is that Ivy recorded high scores in various benchmark tests against Open AI and DeepSeek (△AIME 2024: 81% △MATH-500: 98.6 △SWE-BENCH: 51.1 △MMLU: 91.2).

Meanwhile, as the use of AI Assistant has expanded and concerns about personal information leaks and security have grown, CLEVI has made the Ivy app platform available so that users can sign up with minimal personal information. In the case of public institutions and companies, it has been evaluated as having resolved security issues by supporting on-premises installation tailored to the user environment.

Ivy can be downloaded and used from Google Play Store, corporate websites and the Ivy download page.
