Visitors watching CLEVI’s humanoid robot demonstration

CLEVI, an AI (artificial intelligence) specialist company, drew significant attention from visitors at the First Industrial AI EXPO (hereafter, the Industrial AI Expo) by demonstrating a humanoid robot equipped with teleoperation technology.
Teleoperation is a technology that enables a robot to imitate an operator’s actions in real time. CLEVI is using it to operate the robot and conduct reinforcement learning.
CLEVI CEO Lee Hwan-ho explained, “We tuned an LLM (large language model) and installed it in the robot as on-device AI. When a person extends their hand, it assesses the situation as ‘requesting a handshake’ and operates by taking the appropriate action.”
However, he added a qualification: “On-device AI still has physical limitations, so complex actions must go through a server.”
Regarding ‘physical AI (physical artificial intelligence)’, he said, “It is currently in a transitional phase, and ultimately, we will need to present a reason why this technology should be used. By using teleoperation, robots can be deployed instead of people in hazardous work environments, such as radioactive areas. We are developing it as a solution that demonstrates the value of physical AI.”
He said, “Our goal is to develop robots that make judgements and act like people, based on AI agents. For example, even without being taught the command ‘stand up a fallen chair’, the robot would independently assess the situation and take the necessary action.”
In addition to humanoid robots, CLEVI introduced various AI solutions at the exhibition, including an AI agent creation platform and multimodal AI.
Meanwhile, the Industrial AI Expo, where visitors can explore various AI applications in the industrial sector, is being held at COEX Magok in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, until the 5th. It is hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and jointly organised by organisations including the Korea Association of Industrial Intelligence.
