The ‘1st Industrial AI Expo’ Held at Magok COEX

[Daily 한국 reporter Ahn Hee-min] A wide range of vertical AI solutions tailored to industrial sites were unveiled. AI was being applied not only to precision control and automation, but also to safety and disaster prevention.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy opened the 1st ‘Industrial AI Expo’ at the Magok COEX Conference Hall on the 3rd. It presented AI technologies and use cases specialized for individual areas of manufacturing and industry.
The exhibition featured numerous leading overseas companies, including NVIDIA and Microsoft, as well as prominent domestic companies such as HD Hyundai and InterX. AI solutions for operating automated factories more efficiently, along with vertical AI that enhances innovation and safety in existing processes, stood out.
Microsoft (MS) and HD Hyundai unveiled automatic translators specialized for each workplace. As office workers use MS’s solution extensively, it demonstrated a function that instantly translates speech or videos into a selected language. HD Hyundai developed a shipyard translator for workers of various nationalities working at shipyards. It translates even specialized terms and slang specific to the shipbuilding industry into 17 languages, providing translation services to more than 10,000 workers.

NVIDIA showcased the integrated AI platform NVIDIA DGX B200 for fine-tuning and inference, and the RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell series for AI visual computing. It designed the booth so visitors could disassemble the devices and examine their interiors.
InterX exhibited the AI autonomous manufacturing solution AM, AI kits and generative AI solutions. These are autonomous manufacturing solutions. They independently make decisions and produce manufactured goods without human intervention.
HD Hyundai unveiled an AI welding robot and a model ship equipped with an SMR. The AI welding robot is deployed in hazardous areas that are difficult for people to reach and independently makes welding decisions based on data collected on site.
HD Hyundai also unveiled a model of a vessel equipped with an SMR. According to Jang Gwang-pil, director of the Future Technology Research Institute, SMRs are safe because they can shield an area within 100 m if an accident occurs.

CLEVI unveiled a robot equipped with physical AI. Since the AI is installed directly in the device, enabling independent operation is the challenge.
UBC proposed a digital manufacturing site integrating AI. It demonstrated the Octobus Simulator, a digital twin-based manufacturing process and logistics simulation solution.
Intechvix unveiled Generative Vision AI, a safety and disaster prevention system. It demonstrated to visitors how AI detects hazards and accurately and promptly warns workers on site.
The event was attended by Kang Gam-chan, director of the Industrial Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy; Min Byung-joo, president of the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology; and Lee Sang-hoon, chairman of the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, among others.
In particular, Lee, the chairman of the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, showed great interest because the corporation is creating pilot industrial complexes applying manufacturing and industrial AI. He demonstrated his keen interest in industrial AI by asking questions whenever he visited a booth.
