Korean AI industry 'game changer' CLEVI independently develops ultra-large generative AI-based platform 'Ivy'
Clevi Co., Ltd. announced that it would begin the open beta service of 'Ivy', an ultra-large generative AI independently developed using LLM (large language model) technology.
Domestic start-up CLEVI has officially launched its proprietary ultra-large generative AI model, 'Ivy', using LLM (large language model) technology. As a high-performance, low-cost model, Ivy offers outstanding efficacy and performance, along with reasoning, specialised agent capabilities, and a high instruction-following rate. Until now, South Korea had not achieved notable results in the AI market amid the dominance of Open AI in the United States and DeepSeek in China. However, the official launch of the ultra-large generative AI 'Ivy' by domestic start-up CLEVI has demonstrated that South Korea can also develop AI using its own technological capabilities.
Ivy provides powerful capabilities, including △real-time learning and adaptation △multimodal data processing △a code interpreter △expert model generation △an agent support system, enabling its use across a wide range of fields, from individual users to enterprises.
Clevi CEO Lee Hwan-ho had been interested in the AI field and continued research and development even before establishing the company in 2022. Despite limited financial resources after founding the company, he successfully developed the proprietary model over more than two years through an efficiently designed training pipeline, starting with pre-training. According to the company, the model development cost was approximately KRW 1.5 billion, while the average monthly operating cost is around KRW 10 million. This is expected to become a breakthrough that can address the AI cost challenges faced by enterprises.
Clevi CEO Lee Hwan-ho emphasises that the 'Ivy' model's high efficiency and high performance can resolve the problem often cited as a disadvantage of generative AI: 'PoCs are easy, but completion is not possible.' Through this, enterprises can have AI perform repetitive and inefficient tasks, thereby reducing labour costs and improving productivity.
CLEVI has introduced innovative technology that efficiently manages the development process by applying automated, container-based training node deployment technology to minimise AI development costs. It is also noteworthy that costs have been significantly reduced through the efficient design of training pipelines and optimisation of communication networks between nodes.
The ‘Ivy’ model is characterised by the development of a Mixture of models for efficient model training and operation. It was developed by creating smaller models, distilling and merging them into the model, while also incorporating attention and layer expansion to merge models or improve routing for more efficient model development. Its support for a wide range of languages worldwide, in addition to English and Korean, through multilingual training and embedding optimisation is also notable.
In particular, as OpenAI in the United States and DeepSeek in China compete aggressively in AI technology, the domestic large-scale generative AI ‘Ivy’ is attracting industry attention by recording higher scores than the two existing models in various benchmark tests (△AIME 2024: 81% △MATH-500: 98.6 △SWE-BENCH: 51.1 △MMLU: 91.2).
In addition, as the use of AI Assistants expands and concerns over personal information leaks and security grow, CLEVI has made the Ivy app available with registration requiring only minimal personal information. Public institutions and companies can also install it on-premises according to their user environments, which has been evaluated as addressing security concerns.

In the future, we plan to release an agent that directly intervenes, responds and participates in conversations between individual and group users. In addition to enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, we have also completed research and development on AI-based proactive workflow agent “ARI” (Adaptive Reasoning Intelligence), which enables more efficient use of AI in various fields such as education and R&D, as well as methods for precise object recognition and real-time control in video content production and medical image analysis, and are preparing to launch these services.
